In Conversation with Glen D'Souza

I believe that as leaders of Centena Group, we are deeply rooted in inclusivity and development, focusing on creating opportunities for all. We ensure that we provide the right intent, guidance, and resources, empowering all Centenians to make decisions within the leader’s intent.

Learning to accept people/situations for what they are, and not what I want or expect them to be, has been my biggest learning. Working with the team to find the most efficient way of doing things. If one decides to do something, commit to it; if you don’t want to commit, don’t do it. Take one step at a time and pay attention to detail. Over the years, these points have helped me to improve and learn new things.

As an IT Head, it is essential to understand the Business and go beyond the technical aspects to understand the business impact of IT decisions. Align technology strategies with business goals. Encourage creativity and innovation within teams. Create an environment where new ideas are valued and explored. Be a mentor to others and seek mentorship for yourself. Learning from experienced leaders can accelerate your growth.

Resilience is crucial; it is essential to learn from mistakes, recover, and adapt to changes. Lean on your support system, rely on your team, colleagues, and sometimes friends and family for support and advice. Problem-solving skills are necessary; analyze the situation logically to find actionable solutions. Every problem has a solution that requires solving.

We ensure the implementation of policies that enforce sustainable practices and establish governance to monitor and guide sustainability efforts. I encourage innovative solutions that drive sustainability, such as renewable energy, efficient processes, and sustainable materials. Prioritize actions that ensure the longevity and health of resources and ecosystems for future generations.

Ideally, one should strive to align short-term goals with the long-term strategy. This ensures that immediate actions contribute to the overarching objectives and vision. The key is to find a balance where short-term achievements do not compromise long-term success and where long-term planning informs and guides short-term actions. This integrated approach helps build a resilient and adaptable organization or individual path prepared for both current demands and future challenges.

We lead by example; the team looks at us as their mentor. The team feels motivated when leaders can show them clear goals, support their professional development, and recognize their achievements.
